Don't drunk people have the natural instinct to fight for survival? I would have thought the sensation of drowning would activate their survival instincts, and the body would release a large dose of adrenaline that would override drunkenness? There's so many cases of drunk people becoming insta-sober in life-and-death situations like this

I feel like once you go under if you’re extremely intoxicated you can become easily disoriented about which way is up or down, and if someone has heavy clothes and shoes on it’s harder not to sink.
