How?! It's not like it was a river. It's still standing water and safety is only one arm reach away. Just do anything to move in any direction. You probably could have farted yourself to safety. Holy shit.

there are 'humans' on this planet that do nothing and accomplish nothing during their lifetimes, except consuming resources... they clog up the highways and drive in the fast lane at 40mph... they pump out a couple of little shits who are going to be just as useless as they are, and then they die, because they never learned how to swim... that's about 70% of the planet right there

i could never figure out how people who don't know how to swim drown. watching this, i think it's because they think the way to get above water is to use their hands to push down on the water and themselves up. so, she's just using her hands, slapping down on the water. When she wears-out her arm, she resorts to using feet by, you guessed it, lifting them legs above water and kicking down in panic.

how do functional people survive in a deep pond? we gently kick out little feet to propel ourselves above water, and use our hands simple to maintain a vertical position, keeping our head above water. most people can easily do that for a long long time.

if i change my gender, i can be a swimming superstar!

Clothing makes a difference but you're right, people tend to slap at the water as if "pulling themselves" up, trying to shout and raise alarm in the process. The urge to remain upright and pull / kick out of the water is a huge mistake.

Taking a deep breath and remaining calm is crucial if someone doesn't know how to swim. You can safely float on your back as long as there's air in your lungs. Even better if you have less muscle and more fat, as it helps you float even better.

Teaching children to overcome the fear of putting their face underwater and being comfortable either treading water or floating would save thousands upon thousands of lives.

For non-swimmers who feel like they're drowning, it's actually an unconscious reflex.

>Involuntary actions operated by the autonomic nervous system involve lateral flapping or paddling with the arms to press them down into the water in the effort to raise the mouth long enough to breathe, and tilting the head back. As an instinctive reaction, this is not consciously mediated nor under conscious control. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instinctive_drowning_response

Why would you be anywhere near water if you can’t swim? And why would you be a whole ass adult and not know how to swim?

Nearly started drowning in a 2m deep swimming pool as a kid. Still remember the panic mounting as I realised all my desperate thrashing was only pushing me further below the surface. These videos always give me an extra chill.

Thank fuck I realised I could sink until my toes touched the floor, the kick off with all my might to repeatedly propel myself to the surface for air. Every time I pushed up, I moved forward a little bit, so I kept doing that as I slowly edged towards the pool side.

Here’s the kicker though, a lifeguard walked past and looked right at me when I was still near the middle of the pool. Each time I broke the surface I’d try to say β€œhelp” but I really only had time to say β€œheb” before I sank again. She had no fucking idea I was struggling, and smiled and waved at me on her way by. Made it to the side of the pool with seconds to spare and a healthy fear of drowning.

My sister nearly drowned me a kid by flipping an innertube I was in upside down. I was stuck upside down underwater and couldn't get out immediately. Also I didn't see her n her friend sneak up on me so no chance to take a breath. Gave me a healthy fear too.

pretty sure schools should teach kids how to swim, u learn so quick as a kid and ull never forget it. i think it took like less than a class for me to learn how to just float. its super easy, but i guess its more important to teach kids about LGBP stuff

It’s some mental disconnect with people and water. Nobody taught me how to swim I just knew how. A lot of people I know took lessons tho and i don’t get what the mental block is unless it’s just fear.

Forget all the talk of flipping, kicking and farting your way to safety - just hold your breath for a few seconds to establish a float, keep your head above water by looking up and gently maneuver yourself to safety! Lol. So simple. It’s the panic that gets people though. Praise be to the lord I grew up swimming!

it bothers me that she didnt even think to basically reverse what she did and what i mean by that is how she rowed herself backwards. if you watch her she swings her arms back behind her and then pull them back to her side and repeats that a few times, creating a rowing motion, causing her to push herself further to the middle. if she had though for a second she couldve easily turned her back to where she fell, lie back and row herself over there. if not that she couldve maybe idk tiptoed her way off the rocks on the bottom of the pond..

Yo why don't they just fucking put out a TV and that's like 20 seconds long and Taches you how to tread water and how to deadman float. Because that's literally how easy and quick is would be to teach that, fuck bro I learned how to tread water by a guy saying "look under the water at my legs, just do that" and I just did it and its fucking easy. Holy shit people who drown are fucking retarded.
