Actally i was whitewater riding for a while (9 years i think) and this thing, the trio gets into, is called 'vejvar' in czechia. If you get into it, without help, you are mostly dead. You cant swim in it, so you sink up and down, you will become desorientated and you will mostly start panicking. One breathe of water and you stop reacting, its game over... You can find it under weirs and dams.

Very disturbing indeed. Why did the officer jump in??? He should’ve still tried to use his stick… what’s worse is that the water wasn’t even deep at first. He was standing in it before they fell into the deep end.
