There's an article a few years ago about a night in the life of patrol boat crews that patrol waters around Golden Gate bridge, and including the morgue staffs and the coroners who received the dead bodies that the patrol boat crews collected from the water. The bodies of the jumpers, the ones who committed suicide by jumping from the bridge.
Shattered pelvis, femurs, shins, ankles, ribs, sternums, ruptured spleens, detached spines from the base of the skulls, you name it. Most of them died because of impact rather than drowned.

if you jump into water from a distance high enough, the impact could be similar to hitting a concrete floor. So you either die from the impact, or become immobilised or unconscious and drown afterwards.

if you enter the water fast enough (i.e. after jumping from a tall bridge), the water molecules don't have enough time to move around, so its almost like jumping straight on the ground so that dude got likely injured from the impact and couldn't stay afloat
as an experiment, try slapping some water in a pool or a bucket with the palm of your hand, if you do it fast and hard enough you'll feel some resistance from the water, but do it slowly and your hand will graciously enter the water without any issue

I did a flip into water from 32 feet as a kid, landed on my side and swallowed a mouthful. hurt like hell and my left side was completely useless having lost my wind and due to the pain. It felt like an eternity underwater. But I managed to fight myself to the dock with my right hand and foot. when I finally got back on the dock my friend was still filming it on my phone.

No, unless he somehow punctured a lung, both lungs would flood with water evenly. His legs/ leg and at least one arm were broken i think. The spinning was actually a neat trick once it was clear he wasnt getting the "Thrust" he needed from kicking.
All i can think is, to wake up underwater like that, terrifying.
