This is the most confusing video I've ever seen in my life for multiple reasons.
#1: If you didn't know how to swim, you think you'd stay away from any water higher than hip-level.
#2: You don't need to know how to swim to turn around and grab the ledge you just fell off of.
#3: I'm fairly confident something got wrapped/restricted her feet from being able to kick, even if she has literally never been submerged in water before, the raw instinct of "thrash around till ya grab something" isn't limited to your hands. If she used her feet, she'd have easily had enough motion to push her to any side.
(Also wtf are the 2 orange things that pop up? Slippers???? This gets more confusing...)

Fun fact: for the all westerners who are clearly trying to wrap there mind around the fact that not everyone can swim, a lot of countries are land locked or the people live nowhere near a coast or lake so swimming seems close to the bottom of the list to learn. Unlike here in America where every other house has a pool. Geography is too hard to understand for some people lol.

Often bodies of water are filled with trash or avoided. Depends on the country of course. The reason some river clean-up is a problem in third world countries is kids then play next to a river that used to just be a mound of rotting garbage. They slip in, drown. There's also a bit of a learning curve with swimming. If you have no local swimming pool, what's the point? And who do you pay to teach you to swim if you're working the mills at the age of 10.

At this point water had already filled her lungs. She really couldn't panic anymore and the body starts to naturally tighten and loosen muscles… the body literally thrashes rigidly on its own, as the mind enters a reported “euphoric like state” as the body is shutting down due to lack of oxygen to all of the organs and, well, everything.

The instinct of self-preservation isn't enough to survive if you can't swim.
It's why it's a terrible idea to jump in and save someone drowning who can't swim, because their instinct is to grab onto you and pull you down to bring their head above the water, drowning you both in the process.
I'd have assumed working anywhere near water would be a good enough reason to learn how to swim, or at least tread water... at the very minimum, float on your back.

imo not being able to swim comes down to 100% fear and panic. Humans don't really have to do anything. You float. You can just lay on your back and float. If you want to stay upright you just kick your legs a bit. All of that is just natural, and I don't know how you can go 30, 40, 50+ years and not figure it out. There's water EVERYWHERE. All around us. All the time. It's like someone saying they can't jump. Why the fuck not? That's one of the base human abilities.
My grandma couldn't swim and she was also deathly afraid of pretty much everything. The very act of telling yourself you can't swim is what makes you not able to swim if you fell in, because you're just panicking and freaking out and not thinking. People that believe they can swim stay calm when they fall into water and that keep rational thought going.

lol a lotta people in india can't swim and its not because they lazy, they just don't find it important enough. Mostly because they don't have access to pools. Even most schools and homes don't have em. There are literally no beaches in whole of north india. Though most rural people who live close to rivers or lakes learn to swim on their own.

Soooo bizzare. I aint the best swimmer, but having approx 2 minutes to realize rocks are just 5 feet away and you can push your body towards them and just grab onto is plenty of time.
