it happened literally right as he touched his right hand to his thigh. weird coincidence or maybe the cause ?

You’re right. He grounded himself when he touched is knee and completed the short circuit. Before, he was building up electricity like a capacitor. Just like when you touch two ends of a fully charged capacitor to produce a spark, he touched together two ends of himself to make an explosion.

That’s your hint that it wasn’t a lightning strike. It was poor wiring in the microphone.
