I remember watching something about how the bomb squad suits work, and the fact that the hands are the most exposed and vulnerable part due to needing that dexterity. Insane

You seen those vids about people losing a hand because of a tiny firecracker, bit bigger than a middle finger?
Imagine a explosive device the size of an iPad. There's no way to protect someone from a 'point-blank' blast, not even with those suits. If anything, it avoids your body to become splattered beef.

A bomb doesnt need to be big to cause greater damage, there are also a variety of chemicals and explosives that react differently, also, bomb suits weren't in particular made to protect you from a bomb, it also has a purpose of keeping your body somewhat intact so that you don't blow into a million pieces, plus you might get an open casket funeral, poor guy though, why not just use the robot :(
