If I remember correctly, some American troops in the Middle East (Not sure if it was Afghanistan, so I play it safe) got some intel that this was the location of I.E.D maker

He had prepared a little welcoming gift for them and their mission failed.

That is pretty much all I know, but from speculation, most likely whoever gave them the intel fucked them over and told the bomb maker or somebody close to him.

Or the bomb maker was the guy giving the intel in the first place as a trap.

I remember seeing this on one of those "Wildest Videos" shows when I was a kid. Story goes that police responded to a domestic disturbance call, man holding his wife hostage. Police kicked down the door and heard the sound of gas leaking. Guy lit a match and blew the apartment up, but somehow both husband and wife survived the blast.
