Whole reason it happened was cause NASA wouldn’t listen to the engineers. They said that the night before was too cold, and some parts might not work properly. Well they were right, an O-ring was affected, leaving literally the tiniest gap imagineable, which fuel leaked into/out of, igniting, and killing everyone on board.

Morton Thoikol had some engineers that told them the boosters were not safe nor ready, they held a vote and most were to scared to vote against the big wigs who wanted to proceed with the launch, and thus a disaster ensued.

So sad to study astrophysics your entire life working on rocket science just to be blown up in a rocket ship without ever making it to space.

Me in third grade:

“What does NASA stand for?

Need Another Seven Astronauts!”

I thought it was funny at the time.

I feel like they should show these in school, when I was growing up US history was barely mentioned of anything past the civil war

A bunch of us got to watch this in school in real time. There was a teacher onboard so they made school kids watch it.

In hindsight, the classic black and white American Space Shuttle seemed to be, and will be remembered as one of the most dangerous forms of space travel ever made.

The most and worst of all of NASA accidents came from their non reliability.

If you asked me to go to space prior to SpaceX I would say “take the Soyuz”

They are all alive and well working in universities. Most of them have changed names or taken relative names. Look it up. NASA is a racket. Space travel isn't possible. We live in a close system. They made trillions. This story is one that paid off.

You've never seen the ISS in the night sky before. Have you? Some closed system...
