2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate exploding in Beirut (2020)

At least 218 deaths, and over 7000 people injured from that massive shock wave..it was so powerful that it was detected all the way by the United States Geological Survey as a seismic event of magnitude 3.3

Brutal moment for the patients in the hospital ....

218 dead is honestly a pretty good outcome for an explosion like this, in such a densely populated area. I would've expected 10x that

Still one of the most crazy events ever caught on camera. Felt bad for that girl on her wedding day.

to think all this could have been avoided if the politicians in charge were not negligent.

do people survive that kind of shock wave or are most people in these videos dead?

The people in these videos are mostly alive. Some will have sustained injuries from flying debris and the shockwave rupturing ear drums and such, though it's not clear enough after the explosion to rule out fatal wounds from debris. Walls and structures shielded a lot of people from what would be comparable to a hand grenade exploding a few feet away.

that's good. It just looked like people got thrown really far from some the the cellphone footage

One of the best videos I’ve seen on this site. Some of those views show the amazing power of that blast. Good upload.

Does anyone know how that explosion compares to a nuclear or atomic blast ? Would a nuclear explosion be way bigger/stronger ?

The explosion from Fat Man, the bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki, was about 25 times more powerful than the Beirut explosion. And now there are bombs dozens of times more powerful than that. Nuclear weapons are truly terrifying

The amount of perforated eardrums from that blast...

The blast was picked up 6000 miles/9485km away. Those poor eardrums are fucked.

Brutal to see the power off that stuff.

And then to think it has been laying there for years because nobody wanted to to take care of it.
