I tell my students (PE teacher here) if you are gonna do this, jump as suicide method, make sure you do it from at least 10 stories high or else you may survive and be a vegetable and live in absolute hell. This guy is likely still alive with debilitating injuries. Also try to do a swan dive head first, don't land on legs

I personally think the "you can improve your situation" approach is better than adding more morbid thoughts to an already fucked situation for a child. But I'm not in your position, and don't work with them like you do, so I can only make an uneducated assumption.
