Yes, but he didn't appear on the balcony until the place was completely on fire, so I think he ran out of the burning apt., and his eyes had probably already been burned.

Too many people are zonked out on drugs or completely wasted on alcohol when fires start, so they don't wake up until they are half on fire. I had a cocaine using neighbor fall asleep on his futon with a burning cigarette, and I smelled the smoke for an hour before his place went up. I walked up and down my apt. hallway, sniffing doors, but it wasn't obvious which apt was smouldering until the last minute.

I banged loudly on his door when it became obvious, but he was SO out of it that when he made it to the door, he thought there was still someone else in his apt with him. He was 'invited to move out right after that.'
