Nah, at the church camp I went to as a kid a girl fell from less than the height this dude fell from. Her body was so badly broken she had to be airlifted out. Granted there wasn't soft sand as you mentioned, but again, shorter distance and pretty bad result (plus, as someone else said, the equipment fell onto this dude.)

I did zip lines in the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica. The highest off the deck (300 ft) and the longest line 1/2 mile, were one and the same. After watching this, I probably wouldn't do that shit again...even though the Costa Rican operation was pretty damn professional and the equipment looked well taken care of. As a former climber, their anchoring was top notch too, which unfortunately here, looks to be where they fucked up.
