Looked liked either that grandfather was 7 feet tall or the escalators are made for midgets in Uzbekistan. Generally speaking, on an average 6 foot person here in the US the handrail would be between ones navel and chest, meaning the majority of ones body and weight would be below the handrail making a fall like this only possible if one were to try to fall, jumping up with their feet and throwing themselves forward over the railing. I realize he's carrying a 3 year old, and quite high in his arms, so this most definitely had a significant impact. Scarry shit for certain.
