EFFORTPOST Riot after boxing match in Walsall, England (2017) One 19 yo stabbed, died later in hospital (perpetrator fled to Spain, later was sentenced to 14 years for manslaughter)

I hope you will like a bit different topic this time. TL;DR. The above recording is from Facebook Live, and accidentally caught an incident, which is mostly seen in the aftermath photos. On 14th of October 2017 (Saturday), in the evening, an unrest started at 9th run of a boxing match in Walsall Town Hall. It moved outside, where two men were wounded - among them was 19 yo Reagan Asbury, who was stabbed in the neck. He died the next day. It was the guy's first boxing match, which he attended after getting a free ticket as a gift. His killer was 21 yo Tyrone Andrew, who fled to Spain the next day and was arrested there. He was a convicted drug dealer 'who also had convictions for wounding involving a knife'. His explanation was feeling endangered because of a racist attack (IMO rather ethnicity-based, as the dude looks nearly white). This bullshit explanation did not match CCTV evidence. Andrew was cleared of murder and sentenced to 14 years for manslaughter.

⠀RIOT

First, map. Walsall is a town north of Birmingham.

On the evening of 14th of October 2017 (Saturday), in Walsall Town Hall, a riot started during the 9th round of the title fight bill topper between Luke Paddock and Myron Mills. Tension was already building between the supporters of the two rivals. Reportedly, the violence was triggered by someone throwing a plastic cup with a drink inside. One of the boxers present later told that it was 'like a Wild West movie'. Around 50 people participated. The commotion started inside the venue, later moving outside. The hour is given a slightly differently, either starting or already moving outside between 11;00 and 11;30 PM local time (BST).

The bout was won by Myron Mills, from Derby, following a split decision.

Writing on Facebook following the disorder, Luke Paddock, from Walsall, said: "It's just a shame about the violence outside the ring at the end of the show."

(I find it a bit funny how BBC 'politely' calls this event a large-scale disorder)

Outside, a 19 yo Reagan Asbury (from Pelsall, near Walsall) was stabbed in the neck. Another man was injured and required medical attention. The first guy was taken to the hospital, and at first, West Midlands Police reported that he was in a critical condition. Asbury died on Sunday (15th of October). He left a girlfriend, Georgia Seedhouse. It was Asbury's first boxing match - he got a free tickets and decided to try a new entertainment.

⠀INVESTIGATION

What also matters is that the spectators were searched before entering the venue.

Det Insp Ian Wilkins from West Midlands Police, said: "We have widened our cordon following an initial examination to search for potentially discarded weapons and any other evidence which can lead us to those involved.

Walsall Council, which runs the town hall, tweeted to say it was supporting the police investigation.

Several roads remained closed on Sunday, as well as the Walsall Library, falling with the cordon. Another event, planned for Sunday, was cancelled.

West Midlands Police said violence spilled on to the street at about 23:00 BST and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"We know there was a large crowd at the event and we need to speak to as many of them as possible," Det Insp Justin Spanner said.

"I need those people to get in touch as they could have seen something crucial or caught something important on mobile phone footage."

On Sunday, a 25 yo man was arrested in his home in Derby (around 50 km or 30 mil NE from Walsall), on suspicion of assisting an offender. Actual perpetrator was caught way later.

The video released ended before the attack was shown.

The killer was Tyrone Andrew, back then 21 yo (22 yo when arrested), from Derby. He ditched his clothes after the attack:

And fled to Spain the next day, after calling a taxi to Birmingham Airport. CCTV snap:

He was extradited in December 2017.

At first, he tried to explain himself by self-defence after a racist attack and feeling endangered by a white men all around. Andrew's lawyer claimed that the defendant was afraid for his life. By the way, I don't think he looks strikingly non-white:

His bullshit explanation didn't match the CCTV. Andrew was walking after Asbury, who was facing away from him and walking forward.

Passing sentence at Birmingham Crown Court, Judge Simon Drew QC said the stabbing of Mr Asbury was a "deliberate and focused" blow aimed at an obviously unarmed victim.

The judge added that the victim was also facing away from Andrew, who had stabbed another man moments earlier.

Andrew claimed he had been the victim of a racist attack when he stabbed Mr Asbury, who was from Pelsall.

The convicted drug dealer, who also had convictions for wounding involving a knife, told the court he feared for his life when being caught amongst a "horde" of white men during the disorder.

Two other men from Derby, Ryandeep Sidhu, 22, of Lidgate Close, and Declan Kemp-Francis, 24, of Dickens Close, were each jailed for 30 months for perverting the course of justice.

A fourth defendant, Lavelle Patrice, was cleared of violent disorder.

The violence then carried on outside with Andrew being rugby tackled to the ground and then surrounded by a number of Walsall supporters.

CCTV released by West Midlands Police showed Andrew and other Derby fans standing outside the Town Hall before Walsall supporters clashed with the rival group.

At one point a man was on top of the defendant who stabbed him in the stomach and back.

Andrew was rugby-tackled to the floor, before getting back on his feet and picking a knife up.

Andrew then in the course of 20 seconds stabbed at three further men.

He missed the first, stabbed a man in his shoulder and then came up behind 19-year-old Mr Asbury, from Pelsall.

He ran up behind Reagan and lashed out to the side of the teenager's neck.

Although very badly injured Mr Asbury, who played for Pelsall United, managed to make his way back to the town hall where medical staff treated him.
