Not necessarily. With actual maggot therapy in a medical setting, it's a closely monitored and guided process where doctors/nurses routinely inspect and maintain sanitary conditions throughout.
I'm sure there are potentially serious issues that can/will come about with just letting the maggots go to town unchecked, especially with such significantly sized wounds.
