They do not. You need to realize that seeing black means that there is still sensory input, which is why people who are not fully blind can still see lightness/darkness. They still have some function left.
When you have zero sensory input, someone who is totally blind, there is none.
People with total vision loss in one eye confirm this. They say it is not the same as closing one eye and seeing black…. It's comparable to the vision we have behind our heads, which is non existent.

I'm pretty sure that there is a difference though. Between being born blind or losing your vision later in life. For an example, people who are born blind don't know how colors look like but most people who get blind later in life do.

There is, that's why I said completely blind. Most blind people just have varying degrees of impaired vision, but it's not completely gone. So some of them can still sense light/darkness.
You're also correct that if you lose your vision later in life, you can still imagine what things look like. Someone who's never had vision can't.

there are varying degrees of blindness, n the majority of people who are blind can see something.
out of all blind individuals, only 10-20% have total blindness and cannot see anything. their eyes are just incapable of seeing anything, including known for us colours like black.
try to see with the elbow, tongue, knees. you can't? the same applies to their eyes. your elbow doesn't see darkness - it sees nothing cuz it can't see.

there is a syndrome called visual snow syndrome, it give you static like you see on old tv screens, i read that blind people could still see that static when they went blind in one eye
because the static is coming from the brain not the retina, i suffer from this syndrome too and i can see static in darkness even when my eyes are closed its like i can't escape it
