I think this is a cool idea even for non-Buddhists (although donating your organs first would be nice), but do we know why they feel the need to manually dismember the bodies before letting the birds get down to business? I mean, vultures are more than capable of doing that themselves. In fact, they're purpose-built for the job!

Like Paddy said, why did they have to pre cut the humans up isn't that what the birds are made for? That would be a sucky job it it was your job to cut the loose skin off dead bodies

Iirc vultures have weak beaks that can’t break through firm flesh. They have to wait for it be sufficiently rotted. My guess is they did this to make the flesh more easily accessible and/or speed up the putrefication.
