Protip: if someone similar ever befalls you, try to slide down to the base of the pole/whatever as quickly as you can, even if you don't reach the ground before it tips over you won't be at the place moving the fastest when it does eventually hit the ground, sitting at the top like that as it falls means you hit the ground much faster than you would if you slid yourself lower down.
