I have a 44 Magnum that will knock a 350 pound shooter back and hurt their hand. They can have tremendous pressure and a very short barrel (compared to a rifle), so held up close I would not be surprised

I don't know. The trigger guard might lodge on the shooter's finger. But even at that - you get that muzzle right up against the skin and you can do wonders. During safety meetings on film sets I would put a large fruit on a stand, press a pistol against it with a BLANK round and fire. The fruit was always blasted apart and people understood. My own instructor had an actor "shoot" a fellow actor in the butt with a blank, pushed the muzzle against the guy's jeans. It was hospital time to try to reconstruct the guy's gluteus muscles that got shredded.
