Getting the amputation performed correctly at the time of initial presentation is important for the functional and cosmetic outcome. When you perform the amputation you must address the sterile and germinal matrix, nerves, blood vessels, and skin envelope. These types of procedures can often be performed under local anesthesia in the office or emergency room.
