the breathing is secondary, you should do chest compressions first and foremost. the chest compressions is what moves the oxygenated blood around in the body and to the organs. just breathing into the lungs after they have no circulation won't help them.

They will have circulation if you keep breathing for them, it starts as respiratory depression first, then progresses into cardiac arrest only after not getting any air for awhile

Can say this is not correct at all, EMT-Paramedic here. Why in the holy fuck would you do chest compressions on someone who has a pulse?!?! You are literally pushing blood out of the heart before the cardiac cycle is being completed, please don’t ever ever do that. They teach you to check a pulse not start banging on a chest like it’s two dollar hooker. The dude is right, you need oxygen because opiates suppress your respiratory drive. You aren’t dying of an overdose because your heart just stops. You pass out, stop breathing, heart speeds up, then slows down and dead.

So.. my fault for not clarifying. I was saying that rescue breathing is no longer considered to be necessary in CPR for someone in cardiac arrest. Which is where you’ll end up if you are ODing… But yeah, check for pulse, administer rescue breaths if possible, and chest compressions if no pulse. Thanks boss 🫡

A lot of meds and drugs actually can make it more difficult for your diaphragm to actually move, even if you're aware and trying to breathe. Just to be aware, respiratory depression is usually way more dangerous in that it presents as depression of your diaphragm, so you think youre fine until you're gasping for air, thou CPR will have the same heppful effect... just if you do do drugs or take meds, resp. Depression can really sneak up on you.

That’s a huge problem actually, people are scared to call 911 because the cops are probably coming with the EMTs and they’re scared of getting busted, some states have some kinda immunity law made just for this scenario

Former IV heroin user, clean for a long time now. That’s an insane amount of heroin. For starters that’s a huge syringe. Usually people use 0.5mL or 1mL sized syringes… that one looks like a 5mL… and its like half full of a very dark brown and likely potent mixture. This would have killed almost anyone.
