We've been namedropped on TikTok again

Apologies in advance for the likely performance issues and flood of low quality posts. I am powerless to stop it but I am so impressed with you all for enduring it.

As always, WPD does not serve ads and never will. And so while most sites would consider a sudden 500% increase in traffic to be a boon, this is not the case for us.

This too shall pass. Find your favorite pillow and bite it. It'll all be over soon.

Hello current wave of TikTok tourists. As a reminder, this is an 18+ website. If you are not 18 or older, leave now. And if you're going to sign up and post, please make it a good one. Our jannies don't get paid and they keep having to clean up shitty Roblox posts or whatever. Stop it.

Thanks!

Perhaps maybe there is in fact something we can do. Here are a few ideas I would like to share.

Proposition 1: Make the WPD website accessible to new users within a few days of joining.

So to put things into better detail, whenever a new user wishes to sign up, they must use their email address. After completing the account information, a message will pop up saying," Thank you for joining WPD! We would love to have you! Pease wait 3 - 5 days for your information to be logged and account to be created!"

If there's one thing TIktokers or anyone Gen Z have in common, it's their 7 second attention span. I'm willing to bet no new ager is going to wait 3 - 5 days to enter a site that they heard about on Tiktok. They will be too impatient to try and too impatient to wait.

Proposition 2: Like Reddit, we can make this community private until the heat and awareness dies down.

If WPD deserves recognition, it should be on it's own terms, and not in the hands of an attention stealing app like Tiktok or Instagram (If WPD is being talked about there too). I've seen communities go private and demand a reason to enter on Reddit. We can implement this into WPD, and with the good judgement of the Admins (Love you all!) we can better safely allow newcomers to enter into the site.

Proposition 3: Prevent any new users to log in for a small period of time. I can see how this is being implemented with the certain times where only logged in user may access the site, but I was thinking "In light of this new problem, why not stop all newcomers from entering and plaguing this site?" It makes sense but only if it lasts less than 30 days. Those who have made an account before August 2023 are able to still access and commune in the site.

That's my input. Thanks for reading!

The issue isn't registrations, it's people viewing total.

Think of a website like a building. A building has a maximum occupancy, although this is somewhat variable depending on the size of the people and the comfort level afforded to those inside. A website has a very similar concept, which is bandwidth. We are only capable of serving so much data at one time. After a certain point, things slow down. Further still, they stop working entirely. This is affected by the number of people viewing the site, and the amount of content being served to them.

There's nothing that can be done about it except wait for them to get bored lol

I understand, but still, We can go into a state where account ownership is required, or just disallowing newcomers as a whole. I pray they get bored though. Let's hope their 7 second attention span works in our favor

How does enabling login-required mode affect it?

Tanks for this valuable comment!

I think point 2 should be the last resort... and Point 1 is actually really good. I think we need also more warning-messages...

Again, nice input from you!

We also have to ban some of these minors, I mean Ive seen from more than a dozen of them saying it in chat without any repercussions.
