Im assuming you don't know how internet traffic works, but it goes like this: you open your favorite browser, but to load it, you need data, so your router sends a get request which goes through many doors to finally end up at the server where the data its held, next that data is retrieved and put on your pc, it loads everything and you can now access the internet. Same this goes with clicking links to open new web pages. Depending on where the server is located in the world, it could take some time for it to load. It also takes more time if many requests are being sent.

I do understand that, but if you don't allow sign ups, they'll eventually get bored and just leave so won't that solve the issue? Instead of letting them sign up and then getting them comfy here

But they basically get all the same features a member has that they would want: find and view posts. Thats what majority of them do. They dont wanna interact, they just wanna look because theyre so intrigued by this previously hidden stuff
