In the time he was struggling I wonder if he was aware of what was happening and/or felt any pain.

Also it's interesting how from 25:10 until 28:18 (his last visible breath) he only visibly breathes 2-3 times.

Looks to me he lost awareness within a few seconds from the time he felt ill. Consciousness is a very delicate phenomenon. If someone for example merely gets blackout drunk, they basically don't feel pain, pleasure, fear, joy, more or less don't feel anything. This guy probably had a major vascular incident. A substantial part of the brain lost blood flow. My guess is he was out, comatose, no awareness, no stream of consciousnesses within a few seconds.
