Ever have it done to you at the beach? It's a terrifying feeling, it gets harder and harder to breathe- and that's with your head poking out.
I wonder how fast someone dies after their head is covered. The cause of death would be asphyxiation; this would indicate that they'd pass out within a minute or two of their head being totally buried. After that, the brain slowly dies as it's deprived of oxygen, and you don't wake up.
