Ballistic testing can easily determine exactly which gun(s) the bullets that hit her came from. Gun barrels leave unique patterns/marks in bullets like fingerprints. Guessing it wasn't the father, but rather the police if they didn't release this information? Also if she was a kidnapping victim why didn't she try to escape at the gas station? Yes, if you could find that same barrel, and reproduce the test to get the same results. The "fingerprinting" only works if you have access to the barrel that produced the sample. If you have other samples that are the same a firearm can be linked to multiple crime scenes, but what firearm and who owns it is impossible to tell without possession of it.
The barrel is not regulated in firearms in the united states, so you could easily swap the barrel and throw away the old one, and with it any proof of your possession of the barrel that produced a sample. There was an attempt at microstamping, basically putting a raised qr code in the chamber to leave a print on every round it fires, but that would wear down super fast through normal use, could be sanded down, or as mentioned before, a part swapped.
