SURPRISE, Ariz. - Surprise Police officials have released new details on a deadly weekend shooting that involved one of their officers.
The incident happened at around 3 a.m. on March 10, when officers responded to the area of Waddell and Dysart roads. According to a statement released by Surprise Police on Mar. 11, officers responded to the area following a call that involved a "reported argument between a husband and wife who live at the home."
"Two Surprise police officers responded. As one of the officers entered the home, the adult female ran outside," read a portion of the statement.
Police say they were then confronted by a man, identified as 44-year-old Trinidad Ledesma.
Ledesma, investigators say, was armed with a shotgun, and that was when the officer-involved shooting happened.
"The Buckeye Police Department will investigate this incident as part of the West Valley Investigative Response Team protocols," Surprise PD said, in an earlier statement.
PHOENIX — Newly released body camera footage shows the moments leading up to when Surprise police fatally shot a man during a domestic dispute call in Surprise last month.
The incident occurred after officers arrived at a residence near Dysart and Waddell roads around 3 a.m. on March 10, the Surprise Police Department said in a critical incident briefing video released Friday.
They were responding to a call from a minor reporting a domestic verbal argument.
“My parents are, uh, keep on arguing and they're like, keeping me up all night and it's just being annoying,” the caller said.
After the dispatcher asked if there were any weapons inside the house, the caller replied, “Uh, no, I don't think so. I think they're just, like, verbally arguing but like sometimes they do this and … it just gets out of control.”
When two officers arrived, they could hear screaming inside the residence.
As the officers approached the front door, a woman exited and said, “He's trying to hit me.”
One officer stayed with the woman, while the other entered into the home.
As the officer opened the door, 44-year-old Trinidad Ledesma could be seen walking from the living room to the kitchen area, out of the camera view.
“As the officer turned the corner, he encountered Ledesma facing him with a black shotgun in his right hand,” Sgt. Richard Hernandez said in the briefing video.
Ledesma could be heard in the video saying, “Don't come in. Don't come near, boss.”
According to Hernandez, Ledesma began to bring his shotgun up, in the officer's direction, prompting the officer to fire his weapon at least seven times. Ledesma was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer involved in the fatal shooting has six years of service experience, with less than one year with the Surprise Police Department.
An investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

It is most commonly called a Tap & Rack and it's the standard procedure to clear a failure to feed or failure to fire malfunctions taught in the majority of police forces across the country.

You don't need to point it at a cop in order to be hostile, it need only be in your hand when a cop is confronting you. What, is the cop supposed to wait for you to point it at him and pull the trigger before he responds? You are literally retarded.

My only problem with this he went into the mans home. Saw he was holding a rifle, and lit him the fuck up. The man NEVER pointed it at the man. The woman "CLAIMED" he was going to kill her (no evidence towards that claim in the second the cop saw her). Walked into private property where a man was holding his private property, and murdered him. If this was on the street, in a car on a traffic stop, or some public setting like that...sure, open fire. But for all that cop knew, he was locking it up so when the cops got there it would be gone from site. The cop rushed in and pow pow pow. He even said "Boss, don't kill me."

The cop was invited in by the wife/girlfriend, meaning he had legal right to be there. He was also investigating a potential crime.
As the cop should have. Don't ever be in a tense scenario and hold a gun in front of a cop.
Didn't need to, because if the cop waited for the man to point it at him, then the cop would already be dead. You have to be faster and ahead of the criminals. I've seen countless cops killed because they trusted the criminal.
The woman claimed "he's trying to hit me" which still makes the man potentially dangerous. Combined with the man evading the cop and then appearing again with a weapon, the man got exactly what he deserved.
See my first point.
See points 2 and 4.
Self defense. If the man didn't have a gun or any other weapon and the cop shot him, that would be murder.
Doesn't matter where, you never brandish a gun when a cop has been called to investigate.
You obviously didn't watch the video. The man was in the living room unarmed. He sees the cop and immediately moves to the kitchen out of view of the cop. In the kitchen the man is now armed with a gun and is facing the cop.
As the cop should have for precisely scenarios like this where when someone sees a cop coming and they rush from view of the cop, the cop needs to make sure they aren't rushing towards a gun, which is exactly what happened here.
If you don't want to get killed then don't run and grab your weapon when you see a cop.
Also if you slow the video down to 0.25 speed, you can clearly see the man, right after he says "don't kill me", start to raise his weapon. That was all the threat the cop needed to open fire making this 100% justified, full stop.

TBF he should've given him time to drop it

He did give him time; that's precisely why the cop didn't immediately shoot. But when the man began to raise the weapon, his time was up.

It's amazing how you actually had to write all of this. I'm not exactly a fan of police, and you wouldn't catch me with a blue lives sticker on my car but I don't understand why anyone would try and say this dude didn't do everything he could to force the outcome he arrived at. It's like the boy who cried wolf but with police brutality. Lumping this example in with genuinely valid examples of brutality/excessive force is a bit insulting to the victims of thug cops, honestly

He ran to the other room and grabbed a rifle/shotgun and if you watch the slow-mo, he does start raising it. Most cops get killed during domestic disputes, he didn't leave the cop any other option.
