Exactly. Emptying most if not all of your clip is the correct move here and exactly what I would do if I had someone with a sword was charging me. By inflicting maximum damage first I’m making the encounter safer for me by making it less likely that he will be able to reach me than just shooting 3 shots. And honestly it doesn’t make the suspect less likely to survive the encounter get shot multiple compared to getting shot a single time as much you think. Ive met a guy who was shot almost a dozen times and survived. There was a bullet still in him underneath his skin. Not saying your not less likely to survive with multiple wounds but honestly it’s just as easy to bleed out either way and the difference in survival rates I feel like is negligible.

Being shot multiple times doesn't have to mean death, all depends on where they're being shot, what gun they have, bullets etc.. Rapper 50cent is a good example, since he survived 9 shots including 1 to the face because they weren't very good shots. Obviously in a situation like this they don't really care if the sword man survives or dies, they're in danger and defending themselves, shooting 8 or more times will guarantee he's at least immobilized and if he ends up dead I don't think it's much of a loss anyways
