I've seen many videos of cops shooting people for no reason but this is the cop clearly didn't want to shoot him but he had to because if he didn't that guy would've killed the cop. At the end he says TWICE to the other cop "she chased me, man" in a clearly distressed voice. He did his best, more cops should be like him.

The cop shouldn’t have shot him. He just needed to do a roundhouse kick to dislodge the knife and then a quick karate chop to his throat to incapacitate. Eazy Peazy

He should have conducted an ocular patdown of the suspect and ascertained the knife in his pocket, then done exactly what you said. This was murder plane and simple
