Schizophrenic man is killed by police in makeshift gas chamber. (Brazil)

It's not a very violent video, but it's still interesting. Residents of the city of Umbaúba, on the south coast of Sergipe, saw a police approach that resulted in death on May 25. A man was killed after being arrested by two federal highway patrol officers inside a “gas chamber” mounted in the trunk of a police vehicle. The man killed by road police was identified as 38-year-old Genivaldo de Jesus Santos. The victim's nephew, Wallyson de Jesus, witnessed the situation and stated that his uncle had a mental disorder. In a note, the Highway Police stated that the man had “actively resisted” the approach. The agents then used “immobilization techniques and instruments of lesser offensive potential” to contain the victim's aggressiveness, who fell ill on the way to the police station and died before reaching the hospital.

Was he even doing anything or did they just "arrest" him for being schizophrenic?

You shouldn't execute people in the first place.

You shouldn't bother with the old testiment as this is that of the young and nieve. The new testiment has good values. About forgivness and seeing the eay of kind and understanding. Well withstanding. We should all withstand eachother as i stay respectful to your totally ridiculous comment ts on a very personal matter to my self. You may say you werent commenting on the weight of his life being taken and more the "cost efficeincy" bullshit. When, in actuality. You pay taxes. You use your social security number have a ID bullshit, so stop crying on every comment about the edgiest thing you can think and act knowledgable about any of it. Your jusy saying common sense thats offensive. Keep doing it i dont care. but at least ive made everyone who was blind now a chance to view how basic you are. If I had been killed like this. I would be so hurt. Fu k you ass hole, nothing is cost efficient. Maybe learn that, then you might be smart.

How does this save tax payers millions of dollars, again?

Those are the same thing. Avoiding a cost saves you money. How is the cost of millions of dollars being avoided by torturing, and gassing a mentally ill person to death for not wearing a fucking helmet?

My point had nothing to do with whether or not this guy deserved what happened to him.

Neither did mine. How are millions of dollars saved by executing people with gas?

It not the gas that its the cost of housing, feeding and caring for someone for 10 to 20 before they are finally executed...

The reason we do that in the US is because it gives potentially innocent death row inmates a chance to appeal their case. Appeals take a really long time to process. Our justice system isn't perfect, and even with that 10-20 year period, there are numerous instances of innocent people being wrongly convicted and put to death. Most countries don't even have the death penalty for that exact reason. If you kill criminal suspects on the spot, or shorten the waiting period, the amount of innocent people killed will only increase. Saving money isn't worth that.

Well with an average cost of 1.5 million dollar per person from time of conviction to execution we need to either get rid of the death penalty or figure out a more cost effective way of doing it...

It cost less from conviction to death with someone sentenced to life than it does with some sentenced death....

More comments

He wasnt going to be executed for not wearing a helmet anyway. Also. America has used gas to execute people. And you offer your tax money and offer no useful imput so you should probably just keep it to your self.

Supposedly “resisting arrest” doesn’t exactly warrant being murdered.
