It doesn't matter what disease they might of had, in many countries people will still use "traditional" methods, religious methods or faith healers. I forget what they are called or if they are still around their is or was a religious sect in the U.S that thought drinking rattlesnake venom or getting biten by one and you didn't die was a sign from God or it could be used to cure you of anything.
