What's really ridiculous about cutting, at least in the region where I grew up, is that literally no one -- not a single person -- had ever even thought to do such a thing until like halfway through middle school when it was mentioned in health class as something that depressed people do to not feel so depressed. Within a week or two, multiple girls had obvious self-inflicted arm and leg cuts.
