unfortunately i couldnt find the initial wound that got infected. however, i did find out it was about a month between the initial infection onset and the pictures shown. they had surgery to remove the infection, and luckily they did not have to have an amputation(which was on the table if the surgeons were unable to remove the infection and still leave functioning leg).
my impression from their tweets is they are not going to quit self harming, even though they almost lost an entire limb because of it. they just posted another selfharm picture 3 weeks after their surgery. i really hope they find better coping mechanisms soon. before they lose more than just a leg.
this is what can happen to you if you selfharm, EVEN IF YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR WOUNDS. this is your warning.

this person recently just had a group self harm sesh that sent both partiest to the hospital (this was post infection btw and their significant other). thats what i mean by when i say if people wanna self harm theyre gonna self harm and nothings gonna stop them except themselves. the person almost lost a whole limb and said you know what im gonna do? more. put my partner at risk for infection. horrible.

just as a heroin user sees the consequences of death from their addiction, a self harmer knows quite well that they could get very very bad infections such as staph and necrosis or their action resulting in even death.... even so, most have that inability to stop going back to cutting or whatever method they use to sh... i dont see how that doesn't qualified as an addiction in ur brain.
self harming gives a calming soothing dopamine release just as other drugs/things specified as addictive. someone using sh as a euphoric coping mechanism can't just "grow up" and "face their problems" u don't even know what the person could be going through/has been through and could even be unable to reach out for resources to get help...
