Scarification involves scratching, etching, burning/branding, or superficially cutting designs, pictures, or words into the skin as a permanent body modification or body art. Often a less permanent version of tattooing.

Carvings depicted in this post were made with the intention to cause oneself pain, it's both scarification and self-harm.
