Don't encourage self harm!

Hi everyone!

We have noticed a big influx of self-harmers here who upload photos of their own cuts. If you are one of those people, welcome! Now, let's get straight to the point of this post. We have observed that there has been an increase in romanticizing self-harm, which is something that we are not keen on.

The /h/selfharm flair rarely had OC (original content, the uploader is the one who did the cutting), but there has been a big increase recently. The flair has shifted from "watch someone cut" to "watch my cute cut". Therefore, we want to implement the following rule:

• Comments and posts that encourage/romanticize self-harm will be removed.

We don't want people to rile each other up by commenting on how pretty a cut is. We don't want people to upload their "cute cuts :3". Romanticizing self-harm is not allowed. By enforcing this rule, we hope to reduce these kinds of interactions with all posts.

We hope you understand. If anyone needs help with stopping self-harm or is interested in alternate coping methods that are not as damaging to the body, please let me know :) (been there, done that).

Thank you for your time :marseypeace:!

So blocking a flair only means I don't see it obviously- and that's fine, because I don't want to see cringey posts, and feel self harm is just another narcissistic attention seeking behaviour. If you're doing it to deal with trauma or internal pain that's fine, it's why people cut, but posting your shit for likes is not. I downvote- didn't know that wasn't kosher, it's the way I say "I hate this". So, do I just block the flair and all's good? Less eyes on SH means maybe they'll move on to something else, like living their lives-- because we all know what happens here, so you need to be able to see just how quickly life ends for any of us. Boom, you're gone. So, don't self harm, death will get you eventually, it gets us all.

As a nurse, I do find anything medical interesting, and sometimes in the SH category there are interesting cases which is why I haven't blocked it outright. So downvoting isn't the right way to show my displeasure?

But aren’t they literally identical once you’ve seen a few?

Yep. Block it and all your sorrow and torment is over. Most (almost all) of the posts in the past were not OC, it's only since recently that this increased.
