I’ve said this many times before on this site and I’ll say it again.
I think it’s so fucking cringe when people cut themselves and HAVE to take photos or videos of it and post them online, those people do it for the ATTENTION, I don’t give a fuck what you say.
Then you have other people like my girlfriend who has had problems with self harm but doesn’t tell a fucking soul, has never once taken a picture of her cuts/scars, she doesn’t even show me or tell me. I have to find out on my own when we’re getting ready together or taking a shower together or something. (Yeah she’s not as bad as the people in these pictures but she still does it)
I’ve even showed her the self harm post on this site.. SHE EVEN CRINGES OVER IT. In her words “those people don’t do it for a release or the pain, they do it for attention they never got growing up, they want people to notice them” she hit the nail right on the head on that one.
I would love to hear a genuine response on why people UPLOAD their sell farm stuff. Not some bullshit lie that you have to tell yourself or others. Because if somebody were to be like “yeah I self harm and upload it because I want the attention” I would respect them a lot fucking more if they were upfront/honest about it. Also any person I’ve ever known that has self harmed in the past now that they’re adults and they have those scars, every single one of them says they regret it so fucking much I’ve never met one person that’s like “oh yeah I love these scars from when I was young”

All right, here are my thoughts as a self harmer. I've been cutting myself since I was 12 years old. It wasnt always as bad as it is now, but it progressively worsened as the years went on. Its been a decade of cutting myself. I never do it on limbs, so it stays hidden under my shirt, and I dont ever show it or speak about to even the closest people in my life. The only ones who know are my parents, and they only knew when I ended up in the hospital, because a few years ago it worsened to the point of needing sutures every time.
Now, last year, I came upon self harm communities through gore sites and saw how much attention people who self harm to my severity get on there. It was appealing, yes. I saw how many followers and online friends they had and decided to make my own. I take pictures of my self harm and get lots of mentally ill teens wanting to talk to me and ask for tips. (I'd never give them.)
So in my opinion and experience, you are right in the sense that posting photos of your self harm is for attention. Absolutely, and thats why I post them. It isnt, however, the REASON that I self harm- and it doesnt extend to my real life. I would be cutting myself regardless of social media attention. I have no control over it, and if I could stop, I would. It's what I have always done, and it will always remain my best kept secret in real life- I dont take pride in it.

As someone who self harms I 110% agree. I don’t really talk abt me cutting in fact im embarrassed about it. But I’ve done it for so long it’s just become an addiction ig. I do it as a release, just to feel something rlly, I feel as if I deserve it. But never would I ever post my sh, I’d never purposely show someone. I make sure to hide my scars even as best as possible.
