A newly-elected barangay councilor in Davao del Norte, Jay Glen Dela Rama, was shot dead by a suspected gun-for-hire in San Isidro town. Dela Rama, a retired member of the Philippine Army and businessman, was attacked inside his roadside store. Security footage showed the assailant approaching him and shooting him repeatedly. Dela Rama died in the hospital from his wounds. The suspect escaped on a motorcycle driven by an accomplice. Police are investigating the incident and whether it's related to Dela Rama's recent election as a councilor.

It's easy to call someone a coward while you watch them in a spectator stance. When death comes for you I guarantee you will try to hide behind anything.
I don't truly believe it is using someone as a shield rather as the last desperate attempt to even postpone death knowing that who he hid behind wasn't the target it would gain you just that much more to life.
