Although the Russian Federation has dozens of Tu-22Ms, it is becoming increasingly obvious that any large Russian aircraft that approach the front line in Ukraine closer than 240 km are at risk of being shot down.
🦉 The GUR showed footage of the operation to destroy the Tu-22M3
Samosranka was "landed" 300 km from Ukraine by the same means used to shoot down the Russian A-50 plane earlier.
As the GUR of the Ministry of Defense notes, the swamp bomber was able to fly to the Stavropol region, where it fell and crashed.
This is the first successful destruction of a strategic bomber in the air during a sortie during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by swineherds.

Air superiority on a scale like the americans had in iraq is impossible today because of the op air defence, especially in countries like ukraine that have modern NATO technologies.

Certainly not impossible, but significantly harder. The arms race has (obviously) benefitted both sides. On the air side, improved ISR, especially AESA radars, ELINT and sensor fusion makes threat detection much easier, while MAWS helps the aircraft detect, evade or defeat incoming missiles. There is a wider arsenal available, including tiny drones that are harder for air defense to engage, advanced HARMs with extended range, speed and homing options (including on non-emitting radars), lightweight munitions like GBU-53/B to saturate an IADS, stealth planes able to deploy munitions at closer ranges and so on.
On the ground side, apart from radar advances, better missiles and better counter-countermeasures and so on that lead to an improved Pk, the biggest difference is the increase in use of TELARs - vehicles that are "transporters, erectors, launchers and radars" in one. Compared to the SA-2s and SA-3s that comprised much of the Iraqi air defense, TELARs are significantly more mobile and therefore harder to track and harder to kill by alternate means (SOF, fires, etc.) Even more importantly, because every vehicle has a fire-control radar, you need to destroy every vehicle to neutralize the battery. Whereas with e.g. an SA-2 you just need to kill the single, soft, stationary Fan Song fire control radar in the battery. This is especially important for systems like SA-17 (Buk), SA-23 (S-300VM) and SA-21 (S-400), that feature multiple TELARs that each can rapidly launch multiple long-range and high Pk missiles and therefore pose significant threats over large, overlapping areas.
Obviously both sides are benefitting from improved ESMs and various other advances as well.
