On February 24th 2022, Russia attempted (and failed) to blitzkrieg the sovereign nation of Ukraine. Almost two years later as of this writing, the resultant war is still ongoing. Slavshit is where content pertaining to that goes.
This category is primarily for videos and pictures of combat and casualties, but discussion amongst those impacted it is also encouraged. This, along with /h/sandshit, for the current incarnation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, seeks to chronicle the real, raw, unfiltered impact of modern conflicts which are a far cry from the fairly straightforward wars of yesteryear. WatchPeopleDie.tv will serve as an ongoing, citizen-led catalog of what is really happening on the ground and how it impacts those who live there, be they Ukrainian or Russian. Our independent and unsponsored status allows us to serve the sort of content that mainstream media networks, online and televisted, could never get away with broadcasting and wouldn't even if they could as they aim more than anything to push a sanitized, partisan agenda of their own. We are beholden to none, and any legal media is welcome here so long as it is related to the events unfolding. Vitriolic discussion is inevitable as well; the cost of war cannot be counted in bodies alone, and the sectarian, interpersonal conflicts that flare up between countrymen and neighbors is often minimized and overlooked. Let the discourse here immortalize that for all to see.
RULES
Upvotes and downvotes both increase the ranking of posts equally in this category. Downvoting is still discouraged unless something is genuinely low quality, though with emotions running high amongst third worlders, downvotes when one's pet side looks bad or loses in a video seem to be the norm. And so downvotes cannot serve to censor inconvenient reality here.
Calls for genocide are of questionable legality, and WatchPeopleDie.tv does not aim to end up in a landmark court case seeing where the line is exactly. Don't call for the eradication of people, whether they're Ukrainians, Russians, whatever.
This is true site-wide, but bears repeating here: WatchPeopleDie.tv is not Reddit. People are going to be mean to you. They're going to call you names. They're going to insult your beliefs. This is allowed. Stop reporting people for disagreeing with you or hurting your feelings or whatever. This clutters up the report queue which we use to get rid of spam, reposts and actually illegal content.

"Article 23(c) of Hague Convention IV 97 explains that it is prohibited '[t]o kill or wound an enemy who, having laid down his arms, or having no longer means of defense, has surrendered at discretion'." We know Russia cares not about the Law, but clearly Ukraine doesn't either.

Your absolutely right. Every single Ukrainian soldiers must read, study and understand in detail the rules and regulations around warfare outlined within the texts of the Geneva Conventions. The Ukrainians are the defenders and absolutely the good guys in this war. That's an understandable reaction and I'd probably do the same if I lived through what they did.
Still, glorifying war crimes isn't the direction we should be moving as a species. Understandable or not now more Russians will fight to the end instead of surrender. By killing him this way, that same man also killed some of his friends who will have to finish off people that would otherwise surrender if they didn't see videos like this.
That is of course assuming this isn't just Russians killing a Ukrainian and then passing it off as the opposite. Either one is plausible and realistic.

Those two Ukrainians are not good men. They are demons that man surrendered and was no longer a combatant. We was an opportunity for a good piece of PR and intel that would have been processed and displayed. Instead these two cowards to make up for their pathetic masculinity burchered him. They shouldn't have done it but they acted the same way humans have in war for as long as we have been humans.
If you study war you'll understand that it takes a rare saint to capture somebody who just killed their friend, even if they're surrendering. Almost nobody will actually do it in real life.
War is a horrible thing and that's why countries should not make war trivially. Russia is as much to blame for that man's death as the Ukrainians who pulled the trigger, because without the Russian choice to invade he wouldn't be there at all.
These men did something bad and if they live long enough statistically they will regret it later in their old age. But they also did something most of us would do if pushed to it. Pretending it is okay and pretending only a monster could behave that way are both equally incorrect. This is the natural human instinct. We should strive to be better but at our basest we are predatory apes, and any attempt to say we are different from these men is a delusion.
