>Background:

Alistair Wilson was born in 1974 in Beith, Ayrshire where he studied Accounting and Commercial Law.

In 1996 he started an entry-level programme at the Bank of Scotland. At his first job, Alistair met his wife Veronica and within six years of meeting they were engaged.

After their wedding, Alistair was offered a job in Naim, Scotland where he was promoted to Managing Director of the Bank of Scotland. Together they bought the house in Crescent Road where Veronica's father Ronnie also lived.

>The evening of the crime, November 28, 2004:

It was already dark outside and Alistair Wilson was reading his two young sons a bedtime story in the house. Suddenly the doorbell rang and Veronica went to the door, she was expecting her two friends to return, who had left their baby with the Wilsons for a few hours.

But when she opened the door, a strange man was standing there. He was tall, somewhat stout and had a cap pulled down low over his face. The strange man asked Veronica about her husband, Alistair Wilson, and his name. She went back into the house to get Alistair to the door.

Alistair Wilson went outside and came back into the house a few seconds later. He had a blue envelope in his hand, which he looked at in confusion. The name "Paul" was written on the envelope and, what was even stranger, the envelope was empty. Veronica and Alistair were very surprised and discussed what it was all about.

He wanted to go outside again to look for the man and ask him what the envelope was all about.

When he got outside, the strange man shot Alistair three times. Veronica ran outside and saw the man disappearing into the night.

Alistair later died in hospital.

>The Weapon:

The murder Weapon, a Haenal Suhl Model 1 or "Pocket Pistol", was found days later in a drainpipe nearby.

A special thing about this weapon is that it is very old and rare.

The Haenal Suhl Model 1 Schmeisser's Patent was manufactured in Germany

between 1920 and 1945.

The ammunition, a .25 caliber, was manufactured between 1983 and 1993 by Sellier and Bellot in the Czech Republic.

Only once since the appearance of this weapon has a second weapon of this type been found in Naim.

In 2016, a house search was carried out on an elderly citizen of the city. In the same year, another weapon from before the Second World War was found.

>Inconsistencies:

1.:

The blue envelope with the name "Paul" on it was never found on the victim Alistair Wilson. The perpetrator must have taken it with him on his second encounter with Wilson. To this day, the real meaning behind the name "Paul" is not clear.

2.:

A cigarette butt was found at the crime scene. Both this and the murder weapon were tested for DNA in 2018. The result was a profile that never matched the traces found.

3.:

On the night Alistair Wilson was murdered, a CCTV camera was running opposite the house and recorded everything. Unfortunately, the police equipment was not working so they could not record the film.

4.:

Also in 2018, a new type of forensic test for metal was made available to the public.

This technique detects fingerprints on metal objects by creating a microscopic electric field that reveals raised material on the surface. Some of the fingerprints found have been linked to unsolved shootings, including the murder of Alistair Wilson.

5.:

Again in 2018, police became interested in Shaun Douglas, who was no longer living there at the time of Wilson's murder. Douglas emigrated to North America shortly after the murder and was thus of police interest. Shaun Douglas refused to provide DNA and was not named as a suspect.

6.:

In 2019, a whistleblower came forward and confessed to a 2004 financial scandal at Alistair Wilson's workplace. A certain Paul Moore was sacked the same year the murder occurred. He had raised concerns about lending strategies as the Bank of Scotland had overdrawn by £20 billion on one matter. Wilson had already quit his job by this time as he no longer found his job at the bank satisfying and wanted to start working for a local company.

>Theories:

1. The Wrong Man:

Veronica Wilson believes that her husband was the wrong victim. The name "Alistair" and "Wilson" are quite common in Scotland. Alistair Wilson showed no signs of fear or nervousness when the stranger appeared.

He was calm, confused and curious throughout the situation, suggesting that he had no premonition of what was about to happen. However, the police were unable to find a replacement for Wilson, who was supposed to be the victim.

2. Workplace connections:

It is speculated that Alistair Wilson may have had unconscious or conscious connections to organized crime due to his work at the bank. The perpetrator knew the victim's address and name and was not surprised when Veronica Wilson opened the door instead of Alistair. The envelope could be interpreted as a secret request that Alistair failed to fulfill, ultimately leading to his death. Critics note that such a conspicuous approach would have been too obvious.

Why wasn't Wilson shot during the first encounter and what was the purpose of the envelope? This could indicate that Alistair Wilson was drawn into a situation that was unfamiliar to him.

3. The family:

In many murder cases, especially unsolved ones, family plays a big role. The motive and sequence of events are confusing and unique. Veronica Wilson largely kept herself and her family out of the public eye, which raised speculation about whether she had anything to do with her husband's murder. Although she was never named as a suspect, she even underwent a hypnosis session to potentially gain more information about the sequence of events.

4. The hotel

In April 2022, police announced that there were links to the Havelock Hotel. Alistair Wilson was involved in a planning dispute in 2004 to prevent the hotel terrace from being extended. Construction workers or customers of the hotel were suspected, with the owner being ruled out. Police believed in 2023 that two people were involved in the murder, however no arrests have been made so far and the case remains unsolved.

>Andrew Wilson:

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/1716491521516563.webp

The son of Alistair Wilson, Andrew Wilson, gave an interview in 2020 in which he asked for an investigation into his father's murder.

Here are some things he said:

`There would be no more bedtime stories, no more playing football or helping him in the garden. My dad and I missed out on so many things together, showing me how to tie a tie, driving lessons and taking me for my first pint, Andrew Wilson said.'

For the last 16 years I have been left wondering why I didn't have a dad like all my friends. I still cannot believe how someone could shoot my dad dead on our doorstep while my brother and I were upstairs.

The only memory of my dad I'm left with is the image of him lying on the doorstep. Photographs are all I have and no family should suffer the way we have all these years. Nothing can bring my dad back, but knowing who did this and why could give us the closure we need.

I just want to know why, why I've grown up without a dad, why it was me, why it was my dad.
