From her tame body language and the fact her alleged laugh was not even audible in spite of the dead silence in the classroom, it appears it wasn't a scornful laugh intended to humiliate, but more of an ecstatic smile. She probably found it endearing that he was so nervous. He visibly has very high social anxiety and that caused him to perceive her smile as hostile. She seems to be resting her head on her palms, which is usually the body language of affection and not scorn. It's just a hypothesis.
