It's nice that the soldiers didn't even bother trying to harm the child. They know that the kid doesn't even know what he's doing, he's just listening to his father. I think that one soldier even gave the little guy a high five at one point. All in all, I think the dad wanted them to shoot the kid so he could have proof of how horrible the opposing party is, despite sending his own infant to his death.
