Surprisingly enough, most of the body remains alive and cheerfully continues doing whatever specialised job it's doing, until it runs out of incoming energy and nutrients, then fires off specific signals that begin to induce widespread cell death.
Conscious control of motor functions and "the human part" gets fucked almost instantly with brain damage like this, instant ragdoll and personality deletion, but his nails and hair will continue to grow, his heart will carry on beating erratically for a minute or so (seen Cartel videos / car accidents where beating hearts are outside the body? yeah), his various little glands will continue to produce saliva / enzymes / whatever.
