Of course there is a sweetspot, but it has to do with aerodynamics, the catcher, the underground, of course the speed/height of the object/subject. So there is not ONE sweetspot.
You can feather a fall of an infant if you are doing it right from upper floors like 3-5 (just a guess, there are reported survivors of falling children of that height, with additional soft bones of infants/childs helping, which my guess is based from).
But with enough height/speed, you would not help in any way.

What kind of injuries do you think that guy would be looking at after that impact? Broken arms and ribs, maybe even spine or neck from how hard she hit? I'm sure massive internal injuries as well. Wonder how high she jumped from that the guy thought he would actually be able to catch her?
