A man (41), from a nearby suburb, committed suicide today in the center of Kragujevac in front of numerous passers-by. He cut his own throat with a knife, despite the police trying to talk him out of suicide. He raised his hand to himself around 9:30 a.m., in front of the convenience store of a large retail chain, in Ulica Kralja Aleksandra Prvo Karađorđevića.
The gruesome scene disturbed passers-by, and the sidewalk and street were covered in the blood of the unfortunate man. What is the cause of this unusual tragedy is not yet known for sure. According to the information so far, the man went to the supermarket this morning and took a large amount of chocolate, but refused to pay for it at the cash register.
Then he took out a knife and started brandishing the weapon and threatening others. The frightened worker, who was at the cash register, ran away and called the store manager - some of the eyewitnesses said today.
The police were immediately informed. The man, who, according to our informants, was wearing a camouflage suit, went outside in the meantime. Many citizens of Kragujevac, as well as police officers who quickly arrived at the scene, saw him a few meters from the entrance to the store. They tried to convince him to drop the knife he had in his hands, but they failed.
The man reportedly had mental problems and probably decided to do this at a time of a nervous breakdown.
