Haitian in Chile who was shot by the police throws himself to his death (+ aftermath)

A man of Haitian nationality died after shooting against Carabineros personnel in the commune of Santiago, in the vicinity of Metro Ñuble, Metropolitan Region. In that context, a uniformed would have responded with his service weapon, impacting the suspect.

According to the first information, the incident occurred on Thursday, when police officers from the fourth police station in Santiago went to the intersection of Rogelio Ugarte with Arauco after being alerted to a person who was fired in public roads from a roof of a building.

At that moment, the individual reacted firing against the officials, who used their service weapon to repel the attack. One of the shots of the uniformed did the person in, who fell from a height. Subsequently, the death of man was found.

The chief prosecutor of the North Central Prosecutor's Office, Macarena Cañas, instructed that the Homicide Brigade of the Investigation Police (PDI) makes the respective proceedings to clarify the fact.

Meanwhile, the prefect of the Santiago Centro Prefecture, Colonel Gilberto Garay, explained that neighbors reported the person, however, on several occasions, seeing the police presence, he hid. "I lived in a piece in one of the homes of the place," he said.

In the last first leg of Carabineros, said the police, “They are directly with the person. We realize that he was with the weapons and began to shoot Carabineros. He is a person of foreign nationality, he is 30 years old. This person is with their regular situation in Chile, what we have managed to verify; But yes, I had several arrests for this type of offenses. Not by firearm, but for causing disorder here in the sector, ”he said.
