His act isn't defendable but I may have an idea as to why he did this. Let's try to find a somewhat positive reasoning for this!
What if he was in a situation where he knew he couldn't give a good life to his child, so he felt like the best solution for both of them was to die? Depending on the countries, adoption services can be hell.
Anyway, don't kill your kids, people. Just kill other people's kids!

This could be a reason even though it won't be an excuse :( There maybe could've been other options, friends, family... or just asking the government for support? But if he did try all of those, I suppose I can kind of see why he feels as though he felt as though it was his only way to turn to. It's unfortunate nonetheless, some parents really don't deserve kids at all.
