It looks a bit like he pussied out after putting a bit of weight on the rope and went to loosen the noose that was still tight around his neck but fell unconscious before being able to get it undone. Just the way he starts to lose balance while standing up supporting his own bodyweight and messing with the rope and then his body begins to shake gives me that impression.
