Weird Russian trend where kids kill themselves ?

The lyrics to this song- “ и камнем вниз, с крыши дома” means “like a stone down from the roof of a house.”

The song was initially desired to be banned by the authorities because they believed it encouraged suicide after a girl committed suicide while listening to it.

To annoy them, people who were suicidal killed themselves while listening to this music.

To add a little bit of a joke: Who wouldn't kill themselves if they were Russian? :marseyreze:

TLDR ; social media is sadly causing increased rates of suicide and self-harm

On a more serious note: It is absolutely heart-breaking what Gen Z individuals are going through. Social media apps such as TikTok have destroyed attention spans, made people more arrogant than ever before, and caused a lot of people to suffer from depression or FOMO. I am saying this as somebody who used to use TikTok and had 13k+ followers... it eventually eats away at you and drastically changes your personality. Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are the same, although I'd say TikTok is the worst one. It has addicting mechanics and an intelligent algorithm that are purposely meant to get people obsessed with the app.

It is so so SO sad to see. I have since pretty much quit social media besides Instagram and my life has changed for the better. My generation is doomed at this rate. :marseysad2:

Same. I ditched social media entirely several years ago. It's a disaster for the human species.

I'm not one who claims "technology bad and fire scary" like some Boomers do, but social media really has evolved into this horrifying thing. I didn't even mention how social media apps steal and sell your data, and social media apps like TikTok work exclusively in favor of China and its government. It's a scary world we live in where every bit of our lives is monitored. I don't even really post on Instagram anymore, and even then my account is private and only people I know follow it.

Yep. This is why I invested in an expensive VPN and set a location on the other side of the planet from me. Not entirely fool proof, but I never do anything (particularly visit sites like this one) without it on. I have noticed some major websites are starting to disallow access when the VPN is on. This is concerning.

That is indeed very concerning! I plan on getting a good VPN once I graduate college and start making money again in May. VPNs are so expensive these days. Any suggestions?

I use Express VPN. It's like 150 bucks per year, but it's the most reliable and most stable one I've used. They also use a certain kind of system that automatically deletes your data, so even they cannot see what you look at. I see zero speed reductions with them either, even with locations set on the other side of the world. They also have a setting that will automatically block internet traffic if the VPN disconnects.

I was raised without internet access and I just now realize what a boon that was too. What folly it is to end your life for a few eyes who will forget you in a couple years.

I was born when the Internet existed but it was still fairly new. It rapidly expanded and boomed in popularity around 2009, and the world has never been the same since. Remember when kids played outside? Those were great times.

Same here. As a snotnosed kid, when I woke up in the morning the first thing I did was walk down the street and get into trouble with my best friend. "Let's sell lemonade today". "Let's explore the junkyard in this local patch of woods."

Hand-phones are a disaster and I'll never let any of my kids have any, period.

I'm not sure if I would ban phones, but I would definitely wait until they're teenagers to give them phones... and even then, I would monitor their activity and make sure they avoid certain things. I hate to be that mother, but I have no choice. Same goes for schools-- I am probably going to enroll them in a private or charter school. I don't have kids yet, but it's worth thinking about ahead of time.

Good point; they will get access to online some time or another and it's good to keep an eye on that–with the internet the way it is, we really do have no choice nowadays.

Honestly :marseyno: homeschooling or bust, if you have a job that permits that.

People wanna meme on it but it’s true. I nearly destroyed myself with the internet so I’m unique because I’m older but really am the example of all the things the new generation is struggling with. Except I’m mature enough to be able to rein it in I got the advantage of a normal childhood first and regular parents.

Who wouldn't kill themselves if they were Russian?

Yes, social media has contributed to the lack of mental health all over the world. But who needs to blame social media when you are ruled by the devil, a significant part of the population around you goes to a war they know will kill them, alcoholism is your dominant culture, you can hope to make $300 a month in a well-paid job and that also happens to be the monthly rent of your apartment? Russia is fucked beyond repair. That's why they have to go on a conquest to steal land, resources, and children from their neighbors. I hope 120 million more jump.
